Unobtainium, they called it
as they dug through fields of trash
hoping they might find a bit
to trade for food or stash
to fill the voids-- an empty gut
or the pain that always stays
while they sing of hope, better times,
and dream of better days.
Like Kal-El, his mother, Lara, was born and raised in the picking fields. Upon finding the 20th century comic book in the field and recognizing that Superman's mother was also named Lara, she named her new born son Kal-El.
She dreamed, he too would become a hero.
